Common problems with pups

A Royal Aylestone

Vitamin D Deficiency

Aylestone Bulldogs have very few problems. They do need to have vitamin D to promote healthy bone growth. Lack of vitamin D can cause rickets, which can be mis-diagnosed as Wobblers Syndrome, a rare disease. Half a teaspoon of bonemeal every other day until a pup is twelve months old will prevent rickets and build a heavy boned dog which carries its weight well. Every Aylestone pup comes with an advice sheet on feeding and training as standard, along with its registration form and pedigree.

Putting on heavy bone

It is very important to make sure a pup puts on his skeleton, his heavy bone, in his/her first twelve months. You cannot overfeed during this time. Let your pup eat as much as he wants of a good complete dry food, no more than20% protein, plus household scraps and occasional minced chicken. He or she can be dieted once they are over one year old - and your dog will never look fat, but heavy and well muscled.

Later onset chewing

Look out for more chewing at around 9 months old, when the head begins to change shape and causes jaw ache. Make sure that there are plenty of things your pup is allowed to chew (but don't give imitation slippers, for example, which can be confused with the real thing!)and make sure that whenever he or she is left alone there is nothing around that they can decide to chew! People have found their telephones disconnected by a puppy chewing the wires, so make sure these are out of reach!
